A true story… Shortly after the RAF’s Operation GRANBY (parallel to The U.S. Operation Desert Storm), a trio of RAF Tornados diverted to Boston’s Logan International Airport. Note the sand colored drop tank on the Tornado in the foreground. A snow storm the previous evening must have forced the divert, although there has to be much more to this story that I don’t know… (broken tanker, weather and runway conditions at their primary arrival airport, etc.). There was no military ground support equipment at Logan, so the crews of two carefully climbed up the sides of trucks until they could reach their cockpits. The trio departed Boston shortly after this photo was taken… the jet in the foreground is a GR.1A from II (AC) Sqd. while the rear two are GR-1s from 31 Sqd.
