The Experimental Aircraft Association Will Celebrate Its 70th Birthday in 2023!

All Photos by John Freedman of the 2022 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

The 70th birthday of the EAA occurred on January 26, 2023. That’s right, seven decades of aviation fellowship, technical expertise, wonder and amazement has been showcased through the EAA’s early Fly-Ins and Conventions, up to the current AirVenture Oshkosh. This year’s big event is scheduled for July 24-30, 2023 and will celebrate this milestone of 70 years with a wide array of different themes within the grand scale of aviation.

We culled a few photos from writer/photographer John Freedman’s thousands of images he took at the 2022 show, as a teaser for this next big event. These showcase some of the ultralight aircraft present in the Fun Fly Zone grass airfield, plus a pair of specialized high-altitude aircraft (Perlan II glider and Grob 520 Egrett towplane). Almost all currently-flying aircraft operate between the altitudes represented here… from just above the surface in ultralights to 76,000-plus feet of the high altitude glider (expected to break the 90,000 foot altitude barrier soon!). Although it is quite early to say which aircraft will participate in AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 (these photos are from last year, remember), we’ll try to published links and updates about the biggest aviation event in the world in the next three months. One can always go to their web site for the latest updates: EAA AirVenture Oshkosh | Oshkosh, Wisconsin | Fly-In & Convention Stay tuned…
